Wild Pandora by Iggy-design Wild Pandora by Iggy-design
The movie Avatar really influenced my inspiration greatly.

I was thinking about all the other animal life that the movie did not show...

Earth is full of diverse life in all forms and shapes,so why wouldn`t Pandora be the same....

I imagined it a size of an elephant.
I made the strong legs for rocky and swamp terrain. Not so much for running, it is a flying herbivore with occasional fish like diet, could have a tongue like an ant eater to grasp grass.

The tusks could be a mark of a gender or a form of a fish catcher when fast cruising above water during flight. Or maybe even a cliff hanger when the creature needs to sleep.

Nice creature concept  Great work on the detailing, it makes it so that the creature comes to life! Just wondering, how big is this creature, and what is the function of those 'tusks'? It would seem that they are more of a hindrance to the creature, based on where they are placed. (Or maybe you haven't looked that much into the biology, and i'm thinking too much into this xD)

Thank you for the comment, you actually inspired me on that right now. :D
I confess, I wasnt thinking of biological purpose of the parts too much in detail, just basicaly.I imagined it a size of an elephant actually.
I made the strong legs for rocky and swamp terrain. Not so much for running, it is a flying herbivore with occasional fish like diet, could have a tongue like an ant eater to grasp grass, the tusks could be a mark of a gender or a form of a fish catcher when fast cruising above water during flight. Or maybe even a cliff hanger when the creature needs to sleep.

I could devise few more purpouses for other parts, maybe design the corresponding eco system for them! :)
Damn it,now I want to make it a 3D model and animate it and make behaviour pattern and mating sequences...

Damn you! :D
hehe thank you very much for the mental kick! I greatly appretiate such impulses. :D

Heh, I wasn't expecting my comment to give so much inspiration  But I'm glad it helped! I find that I tend to do that too. I design one creature during a doodle session, and then I find that I have to give it various functions and descriptions xD

I look forward to seeing the results of your inspiration :D

hehe! It wont happen any time soon because Im too busy with work, but I will have it on my mind for sure.
I would love to animate it.

An actor that does movie monsters in costumes says that creature is just a creature until you give it personality through movement or other interaction with everything else. :D

Yeah,inspiration...it happens unexpected actually. Just hits you. :)

Very cool design. There's a nice mix of details and unlike a lot of the creatures in Avatar (which I did still really like), it doesn't just look like a Pandoran version of a particular animal we have on Earth. :)

Thank you. :)

I am very glad that this is noticeable.

I really tried to make it as unique as possible in almost every way.
I wanted to make it completely mine and original without copying other peoples ideas.

Avatar was that trigger that launched my brain in this direction. :)
I wanted something beautiful and wild in the same time and I pushed my inspiration as far as possible. :)

Very interesting looking creature. I think the whole bone to flesh ratio may be a bit out of whack, but what the hell, it's your own creature you can make it look whatever the hell you want it to :D

I really like the design of the bone protruding from the head. the grey bones protruding from the tail doesn't seem quite right compared to the rest of the creatures form. I think it may look better it those particular bones weren't there "Just a suggestion".

the feathers have been developed very nicely and suit the rest of the body very well.

Overall Great Job! Keep up the good work!

I'm also creating Pandora creatures for the same reason as you.
This was my first try [link]
and this was my second try, but i will be modifying it again to make it look real more and be properly texture [link]

WOW! Thank you very much for the critique! :)
A am really glad you took the time to view all the details. wow again! :)

I had some second thoughts about the tail bones too...but did them anyways simply for the greater amount of detail...maybe I was wrong..
Oh well...

Too late now....
Glad you like the overall pic! :)
Your creatures are cool too, especially done in 3D Max...I used to work in Max but then I found Zbrush...

Zbrush is a must-have for organic modeling.Lets you do wonders and it is way more user friendly than any other 3D program in existance.
If you wish, check out some of my works in "Zbrush".

I have a couple of deviations of my own... :)

Your welcome!

It isn't too late to fix it if you really want, just because you've completed this work doesn't mean you can't go back and modify it some more.
One of my teachers from UNI told me that the more you remake something, the better the outcome. by doing that, you can come up with all sorts of different ideas you can adjust or replace on your work.
I'm not saying you "have" to redo your work, that's completely up to you; I'm just saying that you can make a more modified version and see how it looks compared to the original. I sometimes do the same thing with my work and am currently modifying my "Pandora Creature" model.

I have been able to get Zbrush, but I'm not very experienced with the program.
Yes it is a very good program especially when it comes to skin and all other finer organic detailing as you mentioned. I'll try to use it a little more frequently when I'm modeling in future and I will be using it when I redo my "Pandora Creature"

Hope you can put this to good use in future ;)

Thanks, although I never return to improve my finished work.
I look at them more as a memento of my skill and inspiration of that time.:)

But,I do sometimes make a new creation based on the old one!

Ideas and critiques are always welcome,no matter what you do!:)

Thanx man!
